Day 18 Books

From early on Douglas & I knew we wanted books to be a big part in our kid's lives. Books can be silly, and give you big dreams, take you to place you'll never go, be a princess or a super hero. Books help you learn about the world & grow your imagination.

But let's get a bit honest sometimes I just don't want to read. Not because I don't want my children to love books or that I don't want to spend time with my littles but I am exhausted. And some children's books are overly long. We have two huge tubs full of books, and I have discovered to have favorites of their favorites because then we all win.

Up above are some of all our favorites.
I Love You Through and Through -- This is Addie's favorite book. It's so sweet and catchy. She even knows just by looking at the page the words.
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish -- Dr. Suess, seriously his books are just great for kids, so goofy. But also great for sleepy mommas because if you mess up saying something, it's ok, it'll work
All The Places To Love -- This is by far my favorite to read. It is so beautiful and calming. This book, does help calm my kids to prepare for bed and does something sweet to my soul.
God Made You Special -- Veggie Tales books are great, we actually have a few we love because these books are great catalysts to push into a real talk with your littles.
Psalm Twenty-Three -- Pretty obvious what this is about but each picture give an idea of what these verses can mean to our children, the pictures are beautiful & show real life events.
If You Give A Cat A Cupcake -- I love all these if you give books. If you haven't read this one for moms go and just read it right now!
Olivia -- my kids love this, I love it because it doesn't take forever to read. Truth.

What are some of your favorites to read to your kids? I'd love to hear!

  1. I love the Veggie Tale book too! I understand not feeling like reading always because I feel the same sometimes! Especially the same book over and over!

"Write drunk; edit sober" -Ernest Hemingway I've never actually attempted this, but tonight I am. I've had my wine and if you know me at all it doesn't take much to get my lightheaded & giggly. I'm truly not a Windau (my maiden name) when it comes to my alcohol consumption. I put my catholic roots to shame. I'm ok with that. I'm not a mean drunk, but a purely giggly & say inappropriate thing drunk. Today stung. It stung hard. Last Tuesday we got a call for a little 5 month old baby. Technically we got a call for 4 boys but for reasons that I will not share, we could only say yes to little guy. And then there was waiting. And more waiting because our agency couldn't find a home for 4 of the little guys, they came from a sibling group of 6. All 6. Boys. That would be headed for permanent custody. In my mind all the things lined up. I had prayed for an orphan. I had been learning about how to bond with a baby in the adoption sens...
