Day 8 {Pre-bed Prep}

Know this from the beginning this does not happen every night.

There are a few things I like to do every night, not because I'm looking for some sort of perfection for the angels in middle of the night, but because when morning comes my day is welcomed with a sort of peace I need.

My friend Amber encouraged me to start this routine. I think if you choose to start your own routine, you need to find what works for you and what helps your morning run smoother.

-Clean the kitchen. No I don't sweep and mop, but I clean the counters and most importantly I clean the sink. If you don't ever start a morning routine that is perfectly fine, but try cleaning the sink every night and see how it feels in the morning. Life changing. I tell ya.
-Load & run dishwasher. Obviously the run part doesn't always happen, because I'm not going to run a less than full dishwasher, I have to run it enough already.
-Pick up the toys. I get all the toys picked up and re-organized.
-Set the coffee. A year ago our best friends moved in with us while they were waiting to get into their house and the coffee pot I had was terrible. They got me one with a timer, and it's gorgeous. And it's just awesome. Plus having coffee ready when I wake! Hallelujah!!!

The reason I do all this is for the feeling when I come down those stairs in the morning. I don't feel overwhelmed by the chaos, but welcomed peacefully into my world.

If life feels overly annoying/chaotic/overwhelming in the morning, I challenge you to try this. Use my list, make up your own, whatever. I just know for me, it helps. It helps me not to feel defeated from the get go.

  1. Yes, yes, yes. It makes a HUGE difference when I wake up to a clean kitchen! I feel like I can breath for a minute in the mornings. Same with the toys picked up.

  2. New design!! Hey!!

    Good idea. I really hate waking up to a dirty kitchen. I NEVER used to, but with the baby it's been a bit of a challenge. When he's finally in bed at 10pm I don't want to do anything but sit in the quiet. But just doing something sometime in the evening would help. I am sure. Good tips!

    1. Yes I decided I wanted something new.

      You know what helps me, is doing the kitchen part right after dinner, I mean yes, I'd rather sit down and relax but getting it done then is helpful.

  3. amen to a clean sink and counter! i completely agree. waking up to a clean organized space, especially if that's one of the first places you go to for coffee and/or breakfast makes a world of difference. it doesn't happen for me every night either, but when i do, sometimes i just stand there and exhale ready to start the day!

  4. I agree with all of these things and I don't have children. :) Waking up to a somewhat organized home just sets the mood for a great day!
